Christmas logos with religious imagery
I was asked to design a set of logos for a Christian National Youth Convention. They wanted matching t-shirts to wear for the event. They would be printed with some Christmas logos with religious imagery. The brief was simple. The words ‘Merry Christmas’ and ‘Worthy is thy lamb’ and some religious images such as a cross, a dove, a lamb etc. As the t-shirts were to be black the images needed to stand out. As it was for a youth convention I thought the style should be modern and bold.
Choosing a font for the text is a fun business I always think. There are just so many to choose from and they seem to have their own character often! It amazes me how changing from one style to another, maybe serif to sans serif or bold to thin changes the look and feel of the design so fundamentally. So it takes some time to hit upon the right font for the job but often when you find it you just know it’s the one to use.
As these were Christmas logos with religious imagery I decided to use traditional colours of dark red and dark green for the text. The beige and dark yellow for the images of the crosses, dove and lamb create a themed look for the set. The images of the animals and crosses were created sourcing a basic vector illustration and adapting those using a trace effect in Adobe Illustrator. Then I was able to convert them to paint mode so I could add the colours to the outlines and fill the inside spaces with white.
The client was pleased with my initial draft ideas and so with just a few small changes after that the logos were finished.
